What is the difference between self-inking and pre-inked notary stamps?
Self-Inking stamps:
- These stamps feature a built-in ink pad and a spring mechanism that rotates the stamp die onto the pad with each impression.
- Perfect for repetitive tasks, they offer quick and easy stamping without a separate ink pad.
- Typically provides up to 5,000 impressions before needing a new ink pad, which is replaceable and available in various colors.
- Ideal for fast, repetitive stamping needs.
Pre-Inked stamps:
- These stamps have ink embedded within the stamp material, eliminating the need for a separate ink pad. The ink is released through the text plate during each use.
- Suited for tasks requiring detailed impressions.
- Offer up to 50,000 impressions before re-inking is required, which involves adding a few drops of ink directly onto the stamp surface.
- Delivering a clean, crisp impression every time, thanks to laser-engraved ink-infused rubber, making them ideal for high-detail applications.
What materials can I use a notary embosser on?
Our notary embossers are ideal for standard paper weighing 20 lb. or lighter. They ensure clean and crisp impressions without damaging the paper. They are perfect for documents, letters, and general office paperwork.

Here are some ideas on how to design your notary stamps or embosser while adhering to state-specific requirements:
- Custom fonts: Choose a professional and legible font for your name and title. Ensure that the font size complies with state regulations for readability.
- Name emphasis: Highlight your name or title using bold or italic text as long as it remains clear and legible according to state guidelines.
- Color Choices: While embossers are typically colorless, stamps can use ink. Choose a professional ink color that stands out clearly, like black or blue, unless your state has specific color requirements.
- Additional text: Include your commission number, expiration date, and jurisdiction if required by your state. Arrange this information in a way that is easy to read and aesthetically pleasing.
- Personal branding elements: If allowed, subtly incorporate elements of your personal or business brand, such as a small logo or specific styling that reflects your professional identity.
- Spacing and layout: Ensure all required text is well-spaced and not crowded. A clean layout enhances readability and professionalism.
Before finalizing your design, always double-check your state's requirements and guidelines to ensure full compliance. Many states have precise rules about what must be included and how the information should be presented.
