Key benefits of our notary stamps & embossers
- State-specific compliance: Designed to align with individual state requirements, helping ensure your notary seal meets official standards.
- Clean, consistent impressions: High-quality materials support sharp text and easy readability.
- Professional presentation: Embossers create a raised seal for added formality, while stamps provide efficient, repeatable marking.
- Customization options: Select designs and formats based on your state and commission details.
- Eco-conscious stamp options: Re-inkable styles made with recycled materials are available.
Why choose a notary embosser?
Notary embossers create a tactile, raised impression that’s difficult to duplicate, making them a strong option for documents that benefit from added verification.
Equip your notary toolkit with stamps and embossers built for accuracy, compliance, and professional document handling.
What is the difference between self-inking and pre-inked notary stamps?
Self-inking notary stamps include a built-in ink pad that automatically re-inks the stamp after each impression. They’re designed for efficiency and are a popular choice for notaries who frequently stamp documents.
- Built-in, replaceable ink pad
- Typically provides up to 5,000 impressions before the pad needs replacing
- Well-suited for fast, repetitive notarizations
- Ink pads are available in multiple colors
Pre-inked notary stamps store ink inside the stamp material itself, releasing ink through the text plate with each use. They’re known for producing especially sharp, detailed impressions.
- No separate ink pad required
- Can produce up to 50,000 impressions before re-inking
- Re-inked by adding ink directly to the stamp
- Ideal for notaries who want crisp detail and a clean impression
What materials can I use a notary embosser on?
Notary embossers are best used on standard paper, typically 20 lb. paper or lighter. They create a clean, raised seal without tearing or damaging the document.
Embossers are commonly used for:
- Legal documents
- Letters and affidavits
- General office paperwork
Heavier paper stocks or specialty materials may not emboss as clearly.

Do I need both a notary stamp and a notary embosser?
Many notaries choose to use both. Stamps are efficient for everyday notarizations, while embossers add a raised seal that can enhance formality and visibility on certain documents.
Are notary stamps and embossers required by law?
Requirements vary by state. Some states require a notary stamp, while others allow embossers as an optional or supplemental tool. Always follow your state’s notary guidelines.
Can I use a notary embosser instead of a stamp?
In some states, embossers can be used alongside or instead of stamps, but acceptance depends on state regulations and document requirements.
How do I know which stamp format my state requires?
When you select your state during the ordering process, you’ll see only the stamp and embosser formats approved for your commission.

Design ideas for notary stamps & embossers
When designing a notary stamp or embosser, it’s important to balance professional appearance with state-specific requirements. The ideas below can help guide your design choices while keeping compliance top of mind.
Font and text clarity
- Choose a clean, professional font that’s easy to read at small sizes.
- Avoid decorative or script fonts unless permitted by your state.
- Use font sizes that meet state visibility and legibility requirements.
Name and title placement
- Your name and notary title should be clearly visible and easy to identify.
- Emphasis, such as bold text, may be used if it remains readable and compliant.
Ink color and seal style
- Notary embossers produce a colorless, raised seal.
- Notary stamps use ink and typically perform best in black or blue, unless your state specifies otherwise.
- Select ink colors that provide strong contrast and clear impressions.
Required commission details
- Many states require information such as your commission number, expiration date, and jurisdiction.
- Arrange required details in a logical order so the seal remains uncluttered and easy to read.
Branding and professional identity
- Some states allow limited customization, such as small logos or stylistic elements.
- Any branding should be subtle and should not interfere with the required notary information.
Layout and spacing
- Maintain adequate spacing between text elements to prevent crowding.
- A balanced layout supports readability and helps ensure consistent impressions.
Tip: Always review your state’s notary guidelines before finalizing your design. Requirements vary by state and may specify exact wording, layout, or formatting needed for a compliant notary stamp or embosser.
