How in-store self-service scanning works
Our in-store self-service scanning process is simple and convenient, helping you digitize documents and photos while you’re in the store and leaving with your files saved digitally.
- Visit a FedEx Office location with a self-service copier.
Self-service scanning is available at most locations and is performed at in-store copiers designed for everyday document and photo scanning. Use the store locator to confirm availability near you before visiting. - Start your scan at the self-service copier.
Select the scanning option on the copier’s screen to begin your session. You’ll be guided through the process with on-screen prompts to help you get started. - Choose where you want your scanned files sent.
Send your scanned files to email, save them to a USB drive, or upload them to a supported cloud storage service for easy access later. - Pre-authorize payment for your scanning session.
You’ll be asked to pre-authorize payment based on the number of pages you plan to scan. Scanning fees are charged in-store, and any unused balance is automatically returned to your original method of payment. - Scan your documents or photos.
Place your documents or photos on the scanner and complete your scan at your own pace. You can scan single or multiple pages in a single session. - Access your files right away.
Once your scan is finished, your files are delivered digitally so you can review, save, or share them immediately.

File formats, size limits, and scan considerations
When scanning in-store, files are saved digitally using standard formats and size limits. The number of pages you can scan in a single session may vary depending on your settings and where you choose to send your files.
Available file formats
Scanned files are saved as PDF or JPG files, making them easy to view, share, and store digitally.
File size limits
File size limits vary depending on where your scanned files are sent:
- USB drive: Up to 60 MB
- Email: Up to 9 MB
- Cloud storage: Up to 50 MB
What affects file size
The number of pages you can scan before reaching a file size limit depends on several factors, including:
- Scan resolution (DPI) - Scan resolution options are available during your session, allowing you to choose settings appropriate for documents, photos, or artwork.
- Page size
- Page content, such as text versus photos
On-screen prompts at the self-service copier help guide you through file options and settings during your scanning session.
